blue smoke
2nd of February 2015 ... Number of Responses 1 --
had a head gasket leaking, when it was taken off they found it needed to be grounded and two values replaced along with some value seals. when I started it a lot of blue smoke came out, they said to drive it for a few days. it got somewhat better but still some blue smoke and you can smell it. They said with the new (2) values it could create more pressure on old rings causing it to burn oil. It never burned oil before and only have 90K on 1969 F100 PU 300 cubic Inch 6 cylinder.

Sorry that the work you had done has led to new issues. Oil burning may have been triggered by the repair work but further investigation is needed to confirm. Suggestion would be to take it to another mechanic and have them compression test the cylinders and also do a leak down test as this would tell you the current state of each cylinder. From that, the mechanic could work out where the likely problem is. Leak down tests fill the cylinder with air and basically monitor the percentage of air that escapes. The escaping air can also help to identify where the leak is occurring - thus confirming if the work by the other mechanic was done properly or not.
