catalytic converter
25th of May 2014 ... Number of Responses 1 --
Hello, This is not a leak question but I was wondering how much of a fool I was for letting the mechanic change my catalytic converter when it wasn\'t giving me any trouble. Some of the pipe had to be changed and I went ahead and changed the cat, resonator, muffler and all. my car is an \'89 civic. I just thought it was almost time to get it replaced and that it would eventually give me trouble. I now think I made a stupid decision.

Given the age of the car and assuming it was the original catalytic converter, your engine may thank you. Over time the cat can become clogged which reduces performance and increases gas consumption. If it had been clogged there would be less power at higher revolutions of the engine. In the worst case the engine just does not run right. Now you do not need to worry about any of that.
